Guide
Record your first demo
From installing the Chrome extension to sharing your first personalized link — a step-by-step guide to recording a demo with Democap.
Last updated August 10, 2026
This guide takes you from a fresh account to your first shared demo. It takes about ten minutes, most of which is you walking through your own product.
1. Install the Chrome extension
Democap records through a Chrome extension — there's nothing to install on your machine beyond that.
- Install Democap Recorder from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the extension side panel and click Connect. A popup asks you to approve the connection to your Democap workspace — approve it once and you're linked.
2. Record a walkthrough
- Open your product in the browser tab you want to record.
- In the Democap side panel, pick a viewport — 16:9 for standard demos, 9:16 if the demo will be watched on mobile.
- Hit Record and walk through your product the way you would for a real prospect: the strongest path, at a natural pace. Don't worry about small mistakes — you'll fix them in the editor.
- Stop the recording. It uploads to your workspace automatically and appears under Recordings.
Tip: record with realistic-looking data on screen. Names, companies, and numbers you see during recording are what you'll later turn into personalization slots.
3. Clean it up in the editor
Open the recording. The editor works like a video timeline — except everything in the frame is your real interface, so you can edit far more than a video:
- Trim and split clips; delete the parts where you fumbled.
- Speed up slow stretches like page loads or form filling.
- Add zoom punch-ins on the moments that deserve attention.
- Add holds — freeze-frames that keep a screen up while your narration makes a point.
- Edit the screen itself: click any text element and rewrite it, hide elements you don't want shown, or change what gets typed into an input.
If you'd rather describe than click: open the AI assistant and type things like "remove the pause at the start and zoom in on the invoice total when it appears." It edits the recording for you.
4. Add narration
Two options, mixable:
- Record yourself. Camera and mic, or mic only, captured in sync while the demo plays. Your webcam shows as a bubble overlay.
- AI voice-over. Write (or generate) a script and have Democap produce the narration with text-to-speech — multiple languages and voices are available, including cloned voices set up under Settings → Integrations.
5. Share it
Create a share page for the recording. You get a private, unguessable link — democap.ai/s/… — that plays in any browser. Set the page title and description; links are not indexed by search engines by default.
Send it. Then watch Analytics to see who opened it, how long they watched, and where they stopped.
Next steps
The real power move is turning this recording into a master and generating a personalized copy per lead. That's covered in Personalize demos with slots.
