Who we are

Democap ("we", "us") makes tools that record a web product as an editable demo. This policy covers the Democap web app at democap.ai, the Democap Recorder Chrome extension, and public demo pages we host. Questions go to [email protected].

What we collect, and when

Your account. When you sign up we store your name, email address, and a hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.

Your recordings. When you press Record in the extension, it captures the tab you chose: page structure, text, images, clicks, scrolls, keystrokes, and the URLs and titles of pages you visit in that tab. If you add voice-over or webcam, we store that audio and video too. Recording stops when you press Stop or close the tab. The extension does not record any other tab, and does not record anything while you are not recording.

Extension sign-in. The extension holds an access token for your account so it can upload recordings to your workspace. It stores this token in your browser's extension storage. You can revoke it at any time by disconnecting the extension or signing out.

Demo viewers. When someone watches a demo on a share link, we record a random visitor id (stored in their browser), how long they watched, which parts they watched, the referring page, and their browser's user agent string. We do not ask viewers for their name or email, and we do not store their IP address with their viewing data.

What we do with it

  • Store and replay your recordings so you can edit and share them.
  • Show you analytics about who watched your demos.
  • Send you emails you asked for, such as workspace invitations and password resets.
  • Keep the service secure and debug problems.

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use it for any purpose unrelated to running Democap.

Keystrokes and sensitive content

A recording contains what was on screen and what you typed while recording. Treat it like a screen share: do not record pages that show passwords, card numbers, or other secrets. If you record something by mistake, delete the recording and it is gone from our servers.

Who else touches your data

We use a small number of service providers to run Democap: cloud hosting for the app and file storage, and an email provider to deliver transactional email. They process data on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes. We share data with no one else, unless the law requires it.

Where it lives, and for how long

Your data stays on our servers while your account is active. When you delete a recording, we delete its files and its viewer analytics. When you delete your account, we delete your workspaces, recordings, and share pages. Backups age out within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK, these rights come from the GDPR; we honor them for everyone.

Cookies

The web app uses cookies only to keep you signed in and to protect forms against forgery. Share pages set no cookies; they keep a random visitor id in the viewer's local storage instead. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies anywhere.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
